In May 1962, Lucky Starr released a song called I’ve Been Everywhere. In the lyrics, a hitchhiker tells an accommodating truck driver all the places he’s been to in Australia.
Over 60 years later, the song remains an Aussie icon but what do we know of the towns and cities that are mentioned?
Time to find out in The I’ve Been Everywhere Project!
In this 96-episode podcast series, hosted by Neil Butler and produced by Podversations, we’ll chat to Lucky and then head off to every single town he mentions in the song – from Oodnadatta in South Australia to Wollondilly in New South Wales. We’ll chat to a local and find out where the town or suburb is and what it’s famous for – apart from being mentioned in I’ve Been Everywhere.

ready to sponsorbid?
Fill in your details below before 31 May 2025, taking care to enter your preferred sponsorbid per episode and the number of episodes you’d like to sponsor. We’ll add you to our sponsorbid tally and when we get to 1 June 2025, we’ll let you know whether you have been a successful bidder or not.
And a few tips …
- Bidding early means that anyone else who bids the same amount as you will be behind you in the bidding process
- If you want to sponsor a specific episode, it might pay to bid a slightly higher amount so that stand a better chance of success
- If you are less concerned about which episodes you sponsor, it might be good to choose “We don’t mind … you choose”. That way, we can use your sponsorbid on an episode that no one else chooses.
- If you miss out on your preferred episode, please tick the box at the bottom of the form if you are happy for us to allocate you a different one if you are “out-sponsorbid”.
